Update letter

Dear Hutsonville Tigers Students and Families,

While this school year has been different, to say the least, and not what anyone would wish for, I hope each of you can find gratitude and something you are thankful for this holiday season.

I know I am personally grateful for the support of my family, our teachers’ ability to adapt to incredibly difficult circumstances, our parents who have helped by notifying the school early when  testing for symptoms and keeping their students home when they are ill, our cafeteria workers for preparing meals, our custodians and bus drivers for the additional cleaning process and our students who have demonstrated tremendous patience and understanding over these last months.

As we enter the normal period of flu, pneumonia, strep throat, and now also Covid-19 I would like to ask you to help Hutsonville CUSD #1 ability to continue in-person learning. Hutsonville CUSD #1 not only understands the importance of in-person learning on the social emotional side but what we have seen thus far we also recognize the extreme difference in academic success with in person learning versus remote learning.

With that in mind, I am writing this to just give a few reminders and ask for your assistance in the following:

  • Keep doing the daily wellness check and if your child is showing the following symptoms please keep them and their siblings home
    • Fever (100.4°F or higher),
    • New onset of moderate to severe headache
    • Shortness of breath
    • New cough
    • Sore throat
    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Abdominal pain from unknown cause
    • New congestion/runny nose
    • New loss of sense of taste or smell
    • Nausea
    • Fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches.
  • If another person in the household is being tested for COVID-19 due to symptoms, please keep your child/children at home. (This is not for mandatory testing but symptomatic testing.)
  • Notify the school ASAP if someone within the household of our students test positive.
  • Make sure you wash your hands and keep your hands off your face.
  • Clean facemasks daily.

Our goal is to remain in in-person learning for as long as appropriate to ensure the right balance between giving our students the best education possible while keeping our students, faculty/staff, and community safe.  We will be meeting with the local Crawford County Health Department weekly to discuss what is happening in our school and in our community to ensure the best decisions are made.

At this time we have 0 active cases in the school but we do have some students/faculty quarantined due to close contact exposure from home.  We also understand this can change quickly and therefore may need to move to remote learning at some point in the future.  If this occurs we will try are best to give you as much notice as possible.  Thank-you for your assistance, let’s each work together and do our part to keep our kids at school!

 Sincerely,

Julie Kraemer, Superintendent
